A 19th Century Coromandel Box

An Anglo Indian coromandel and ivory inlaid work box of rectangular form, with rippled sides, the cover interior inset with a ivory and penwork elephant within concentric foliate borders, with flowers to the spandrels, the box fitted with two lift-out trays, all with conforming bone and penwork decoration.

Coromandel is also known as Bombay ebony from the Coromandel coast
